Vignetted portraits of Cree, Ojibwa (Chippewa), and Eskimo Indians made by Walton B. Haydon, while he was stationed at Moose Factory on James Bay in Ontario, Canada. The prints include identification information for each individual.

Walton B. Haydon (1854-unknown) was a surgeon and clerk for the Hudson's Bay company from 1878-1883. Stationed in Moose Factory on James Bay in Northern Ontario, Haydon was also a photographer and collector of natural and cultural history specimens, some of which he donated to the Smithsonian Institution.

The photographs were initially accessioned into the United States National Museum collections as accession number 13686, catalog number 62043. They were later filed by tribe in Photo Lot 24, or NAA’s “Source Print Collection.” In 2010 the photos were removed from Photo Lot 24 and reunited to form Photo Lot 150.
