Tommy Tucker was adopted by Zaidee Bullis soon after he fell from a tree. Mrs. Bullis, who was born and raised in Washington DC, envisioned the squirrel as a way to raise money for social causes. Bullis took Tommy on tours to hospitals and schools and dressed him in human-style miniature clothing. Tommy Tucker promoted kindness to animals and assisted in raising money for the March of Dimes, the Red Cross and war bonds during World War II. Tommy Tucker died in 1949.
