Papers (some are photocopies), portions in Chinese, of John Calvin Ferguson, his daughter Mary, and grandson Peter Ferguson and Peter's wife Jean. The bulk of the papers, 1890-1944, concern John C. Ferguson and include one holograph dated 1902 to Headland; typescripts of addresses given to the University of Nanking, 1909-1929, and a eulogy by Fu Tseng-hsi, a translation of his address to a public school in Shanghai, a mimeographed description of 55th anniversary of the University of Nanking, two newspaper clippings, and a 1936 issue of Caravan; and still prints and four photograph albums, 1890-1937, portraying Ferguson, his wife and family, Chinese officials, members of the Treaty Commission, landscape painting by T'ang Tai (1637-?), and works given to the University of Nanking.Additional papers mostly concern family members attempting to acquire documentation of Dr. Ferguson and to retrieve portions of his estate that remained in China.

A collection of black and white prints and negatives of Islamic monuments taken by former ambassador Richard B. Parker. The collection includes 200 prints and 481 negatives. The images document Islamic architecture throughout Algeria, Cairo, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Morocco, and Spain.
An associate curator and associate in archaeology at the Freer Gallery of Art from 1922 to 1942, the collection of Carl Whiting Bishop (1881-1942) document his Gallery-sponsored travels to China from 1923 to 1934 and include an unpublished manuscript describing his archaeological research in China; line drawings; rubbings; maps; note cards; and nearly 4,000 glass and film negatives with corresponding original silver prints. These document his expeditions in northern and central China, illustrating archaeological sites in Henan, Shanxi, and Hebei provinces. Specific digs include the large neolithic site at Wanquan, Shanxi, and sixth century C.E. tombs near Fenyin. Additional images show Chinese cityscapes, daily life and customs, topography, temples, pagodas, caves, and sculpture.

This collection measures 7.13 linear feet and documents Elizabeth Moynihan’s research of the Lotus Garden of Dholpur, the Jai Mahal Garden in Jaipur, Mehtab Bagh, and many other Mughal Gardens in India. It includes correspondence; field notebooks; drawings; sketchbooks; photographs; slides; rock specimens; blueprints; maps; and published articles.
