The Artfellows Cooperative Gallery records measure 2.7 linear feet and date from 1980 to 1997. The collection sheds light on the gallery's operations through administrative records, files pertaining to a gallery-sponsored mural project in Belfast, Maine, and printed material.
Administrative records include documentation of the gallery's ArtSearch competition, exhibition-related material, financial papers, gallery meeting minutes, and membership and visitor logs.
Material related to the IGA mural project includes contestant correspondence, a list of votes for the muralist, papers relating to fundraising campaigns, printed material, photographs, a t-shirt, and a video recording about the project.
The collection's printed material consists primarily of exhibition announcements, and several scrapbooks of exhibition material and clippings.

Artfellows Cooperative gallery was founded in Belfast, Maine, in 1980 by twenty local artists looking to exhibit and sell their work, engage in dialogue, and increase the community's knowledge and enjoyment of art. It was located on the first floor of 16 Main Street; the second floor served as a studio for painter Lois Dodd. The gallery had over thirty members at its height, and in its 17 years of existence, received regional and national recognition from the press and other well-known galleries.

The processing of this collection received Federal support from the Smithsonian Collections Care and Preservation Fund, administered by the National Collections Program and the Smithsonian Collections Advisory Committee.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
The collection was donated in several installments. Components were donated in 1999 by Artfellows Cooperative Gallery via Janice Kasper, in 2000 by Artfellows Cooperative Gallery via Mr. Dana Strout, former president, and in 2004 by Artfellows Cooperative Gallery via Stew Henderson, founding member.
