Józef Bakós (1891-1977) was a painter in Sante Fe, New Mexico. He is best known for his Western landscapes. Bakós was a founding member of the Modernist art group Los Cinco Pintores (the five painters) with Walter Mruk, Fremont Ellis, Willard Nash, and Will Shuster. He married Teresa Bakós in 1927.
Teresa Bakós (1884-1974) was an Italian-born painter in Santa Fe.

35mm microfilm reels 663, 1215, and 2672 available at Archives of American Art offices and through interlibrary loan.

Originals returned to lender after microfilming.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
The lender, Norman Bakos, is Jozef's nephew, and executor of his estate.
