Bayer speaks of his early family life in Austria, his first exposure to art, his education at the Bauhaus school in Weimar, the atmosphere and work of the early Bauhaus, leaving the Bauhaus and becoming the art director of the German edition of "Vogue," meeting Moholy-Nagy in New York, and working on exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art.
