Biographical / Historical
Naomi Brotherton (1920-) is a watercolorist active in Dallas, Texas who has concentrated on watercolor since the 1950s and is known for her landscapes and night scenes.
Brotherton graduated from Baylor University and studied at the Art Students League in New York City. She taught watercolor demonstration classes in Dallas, Texas and Ruidoso, New Mexico. She is a founding member of the Southwestern Watercolor Society (SWS).
Brotherton has retired from creating new works due to macular degeneration.

Existence and Location of Copies
Portions of the collection are available on 35mm microfilm reel 2901 at Archives of American Art offices and through interlibrary loan. Researchers should note that the arrangement of the material described in the container inventory does not reflect the arrangement of the collection on microfilm.
Separated Materials
Material loaned for microfilming, including photos, certificates, awards, a scrapbook, and printed material, were returned to Naomi Brotherton after microfilming on reel 2901 and are not described in the container listing.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
The papers were lent for microfilming on reel 2901 as part of the Archives of American Art's Texas project and portions were subsequently donated in 1982 by Naomi Brotherton.
Processing Information
The collection was arranged and microfilmed upon receipt on reel 2901. Portions that were subsequently donated were processed, and a finding aid prepared by Jayna Josefson in 2022 with support from the Smithsonian American Women's History Initiative.
