Springfield, Massachusetts, art dealer and collector James Dwyer Gill (1849-1937), was one of the first dealers to specialize in American art. He sold paintings, engravings and photographs.

The collection was digitized in 2024 and is available on the Archives of American Art website.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
Letters on Reel 2813 were purchased by the Archives of American Art in 1967. Letters on Reel D8-D10 were donated by Charles Feinberg, an active donor and friend of AAA.
Processing Information
The letters were microfilmed after receipt on reels D8 (frames 366, 370), D9 (frames 640-41), D10 (frames 1249, 1395-1396, 1525, and 1553) and 2813. The collection was processed and a finding aid prepared by Stephanie Ashley in 2023 and was digitized in 2024.

This collection is open for research. Access to original papers requires an appointment and is limited to the Archives' Washington, D.C. Research Center.
