Philanthropist and arts patron Hattie Newcomer Gilpin (1961-1942) lived Baltimore, Maryland. She was married to Henry (Harry) B. Gilpin and they had three children.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
The donors, Lewis, Howard, and Douglas Allen are brothers and the grandsons of Hattie Newcomer Gilpin.
Existence and Location of Copies
The collection is available on 35mm microfilm reel 1734 at Archives of American Art offices and through interlibrary loan. Researchers should note that the arrangement of the material described in the container inventory does not reflect the arrangement of the collection on microfilm.
Processing Information
The papers were microfilmed after receipt on reel 1734. The collection was processed, and a finding aid prepared by Jayna Josefson in 2023 with support from the Smithsonian American Women's History Initiative.
