Born in England, Shirley "Sally" Johnston Kent Gorton (1915-2000) emigrated to Canada as a child and was the third wife of artist Rockwell Kent. She served as Kent's secretary both before and after their marriage in 1940. Following Kent's death she married John Gorton and established The Rockwell Kent Legacies with Gorton as Director in 1973.
