Several letters; a brief biographical sketch; a passport, registration cards, awards, citations and other personal documents; a drawing; photographs of James Hopkins and of his work; exhibition catalogs; clippings; magazine articles; and miscellany. Edna Hopkins material includes exhibition catalogs, 1914-1915 and an article, 1930, about her work. Also included are 20 letters of condolence to James Hopkins' brother, Harold, upon the former's death.

James Hopkins (1877-1969) was a painter and educator, best known for his portraits of Cumberland Mountain people; his wife Edna Boies (1872-1937) was a block printer and teacher. From 1914 to 1920, Edna Boies Hopkins was involved with the Provincetown Printers. They were married in 1904 and lived in Ohio.
