REEL 3697: A letter to William Claflin, August 21, 1873, regarding Hunt's PORTRAIT OF AGNES ELIZABETH CLAFLIN (William Claflin's daughter). Hunt offers to show Claflin the "best way of turning the picture for the proper light." Also included is a receipt for three thousand dollars for the portrait.

William Morris Hunt (1824-1879) was a painter and instructor from Boston, Mass. Hunt drowned in the Isle of Shoals, N.H., possibly a suicide.

35mm microfilm reels 64, 2814, and 3697 available for use at Archives of American Art offices and through interlibrary loan.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
Donor of the photos on reel 64 unknown. The catalogs are actually from the Macbeth Gallery records, and may have been microfilmed with them. Letter on reel 2814, fr. 773-777 donated 1981 by Letitia Howe; and reel 3697 transferred from the National Museum of American Art, 1986.
