An autobiographical essay; biographical material; correspondence; 12 appointment books, 1968-1980; 4 guest books, 1938-1980; typescripts of Kappel's published manuscript, "New England Gallery," 1966; notes and typescripts of writings; financial records; works of art by Kappel and others; 6 scrapbooks containing printed material and letters; 2 books, LOUISIANA GALLERY, 1950 and 1970, and JAMAICA GALLERY, 1960, written and illustrated by Kappel; reproductions, catalogs and announcements; printed material on the Connecticut Commission on the Arts and the Washington Art Association, Washington Depot, Ct.; clippings; and ca. 1000 photos, slides and negatives of Kappel, his family, friends, and his home in New Milford, Ct.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
Kappel donated first two installments of collection in 1976 and 1978. Final part, consisting of correspondence, press clippings, business accounts and scrapbooks given by executors of Kappel's estate in 1982.
