The papers of ceramicist Karen Karnes measure 4.1 linear feet and date from 1973-2012. Included are biographical material; personal correspondence; exhibition files for the Old Church Community Center, Demarest, New Jersey, where Karnes curated exhibitions; artists' files containing clippings, correspondence, and clay and glaze formulas; photographs of Karnes and photographs, slides, transparencies, and images of works of art on five CDs by Karnes and others; two VHS video recordings of Karnes, 1997 and 2000, and one documentary on DVD "Don't Know We'll See: The Work of Karen Karnes" by Lucy Massie Phenix, 2008.

Karen Karnes (1925-2016) was a ceramist in Morgan, Vermont.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
Donated 2018 by Ann Stannard, executor of Karnes' estate. A kiln fire in Karnes' studio and home in 1998 destroyed most of her papers.

Conditions Governing Access
Use of original papers requires an appointment and is limited to the Archives' Washington, D.C., Research Center. Use of audio visual recordings and archival electronic records with no duplicate copy requires advance notice.
