Scope and Contents
Letters are from Katz's father, painter Theophile Schneider, 1888, written upon his arrival in the United States and from relatives in France, galleries, art organizations, the Civil Defense Volunteer Office, former pupils Jose Morales, Marjorie and Hon-Chew Hee, Patricia Hand, Stuart Klonis announcing a merit scholarship at the Art Students League in Katz's name, and others. Art work consists of sketchbooks, ca. 1929- 1950; sketches and drawings, many annotated, including 64 silverpoint figure drawings, and 1 oil painting of Isabel Bishop, ca. 1920. Printed material includes clippings, exhibition catalogs and announcements, among them a catalog for a joint exhibition of Schneider's and Katz's work. Photographs, 1880-1970, are of Katz, including 4 platinum prints by Laura Gilpin, her family, her friends, and her paintings, and ten photographs of her father Theophile Schneider, including five as a young man; four as an older man and one of a portrait of him drawn by Sears Gallagher. Photographers include Alman & Co., William Charles Nortzel, J. E. Purdy, and G. Schuhmann. Teaching materials include outlines for class lectures at the Art Students League.
