Biographical / Historical
Maud Cabot Morgan (1903-1999) was a painter in Massachusetts. She attended Barnard College, the Sorbonne in Paris, and the Columbia Architecture School. She also studied at the Art Students League with Kimon Nikolaides and Hans Hofmann. Morgan traveled extensively throughout Asia and Europe and began painting in Paris in 1926. In the 1930s, she lived in Munich, Germany, and Murray Bay, Canada. From 1940-1948, Morgan was a teacher at the Abbot Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. Between 1938 and 1982, Morgan exhibited her work at the Julian Levy Gallery, Betty Parsons Gallery, and the Margaret Brown Gallery, among others.

Existence and Location of Copies
Material lent for microfilming is available on 35mm microfilm reel 777 at Archives of American Art offices and through interlibrary loan.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
Maud Morgan first lent material for microfilming in 1974. She gave additional papers 1985. Two VHS tapes were donated anonymously in circa 1994.
Separated Materials
The Archives of American Art also holds microfilm of material lent for microfilming (reel 777) including three scrapbooks (1938-1974) that contain photographs of works of art, clippings, exhibition announcements and catalogs, and press releases. Also found are one hundred forty-two letters, price lists, and other material interleaved within the scrapbook pages. Additionally, there is a twelve-page book of clippings by Rosamund Frost is entitled "Maud Morgan, A Woman With a Purpose." Loaned materials were returned to the lender and are not described in the collection container inventory.

The collection was processed by Jean Fitzgerald in 1990. A finding aid was written by Caroline Donadio in 2019.

Use of original papers requires an appointment and is limited to the Archives' Washington, D.C., Research Center.
