Herman Rodnick was possibly a student of Hans Hofmann, a painter and instructor. Hofmann has been called "dean" of American Abstract Expressionism.

Portions of the collection are available on 35mm microfilm reel N70-40 at the Archives of American Art offices and through interlibrary loan. Readers should note that the arrangement of material described in the container inventory does not reflect the arrangement of the collection on microfilm.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
The Herman Rodnick papers on Hans Hofmann were donated to the Archives of American Art in 1970 by Herman Rodnick.
