Scope and Contents
In the first letter, dated August 2, 1977, Diebenkorn is responding to a letter from Stanley about Stanley's recent paintings. The second letter, dated July 28 [1988], is Diebenkorn's response to a letter that Stanley wrote to Diebenkorn after reading the essay, "The Anatomy of Painting Style: Description with Computer Rules," by Joan L. Kirsch and Russell A. Kirsch, MIT Press, 1988, about how an algorithm had been developed from Diebenkorn's compositional style.
