Biographical / Historical
Dorothy Newkirk Stewart (1891-1955) was a painter, printer, and printmaker in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Stewart studied at the Pennsylvania Fine Arts Academy. Dorothy and her sister Margretta settled in New Mexico where they took over a printing press and published Stewart's block prints.

Existence and Location of Copies
The collection is available on 35mm microfilm reels 847 and 859 at Archives of American Art offices and through interlibrary loan. Researchers should note that the arrangement of the material described in the container inventory does not reflect the arrangement of the collection on microfilm.

Donated 1963 by Dorothy Stewart via Sylvia Loomis.
