James Johnson Sweeney (1900-1986) was an art administrator and curator for the Museum of Modern Art from 1935-1946. He was the second director of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum from 1952-1960. He was the director of the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston from 1961-1967.
