Primarily letters from Woodward to Williams. Also included are a 9 p. biographical sketch of Woodward; Woodward's painting journal; a scrapbook; printed material; notes; and photographs and slides relating to Woodward's work as a painter and his friendship with Williams.
Scope and Contents
Letters are mainly from Woodward discussing his work, plans and health. Correspondents also include Ethel Dow and Woodward's friend and protege Mark Purinton, Jr. The scrapbook and printed material consist of newspaper clippings, magazine articles, exhibition catalogs, and exhibition announcements about Woodward's work. Photographs and slides taken by Williams of Woodward, his studios and home and were used by Woodward as important source material because of his immobility. Scattered throughout the printed material are items related to Lester Stevens, another New England painter apparently of interest to Williams.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
Donated 1989-1990 by F. Earl Williams, who collected the papers and shot the slides and photographs. His niece, Barbara Roggeveen, thinks he also compiled the scrapbook.
