An interview of LeRoy Winbush conducted 1988 November 5-11, by Frank DeBose, for the Archives of American Art African-American artists in Chicago oral history project (1988-1989).
Scope and Contents
Winbush speaks of his education and family life, working as a sign painter for Goldblatt Brothers department store, joining the Art Directors Club of Chicago, starting the design firm of Winbush and Associates, and his involvement with the South Side Community Art Center. He discusses racism and issues involving black artists. The interview concludes as he recalls his chairmanship of the 1959 International Design Conference.
