- Physical Description:
The Florentine Craftsman Collection contains trade literature and photographic images compiled by the Florentine Craftsmen firm of Long Island City, New York, dating from 1921 to 1976. Most of the manufacturers' literature--including catalogs, flyers, and brochures--deals with outdoor furniture and ornaments, iron work fixtures, and railings. Some of the materials relate specifically to product lines by Florentine Craftsmen, though most illustrate the work of other manufacturers of outdoor furnishings.
Florentine Craftsmen was established in New York City in 1915 as a manufacturer of hand-crafted garden statuary and ornaments, fountains, outdoor furniture, planters and other garden items. According to company literature, the product line was based on original designs and molds developed by Florentine Craftsmen founder Vincent Primavera, an Italian émigré and artisan. Acquired by Kenneth Lynch & Sons, Inc. in 2011, Florentine Craftsmen continues to put out different product lines of garden furnishings and ornaments.
