Photographs taken by Freire d'Andrade e Serrano and Soura Machado in Mozambique for Carta Agricolo-Silva Imp. (Agricultural Charter-Silver Importers), circa 1888. The photographs were collected by the trading company to document its activities and the conditions in Mozambique. Images include forts, government buildings, markets and villages. Activities depicted include roof construction, farming and using a mortar and pestle. There are also portraits of agricultural workers shown with cattle and a wagon, a cook with his helpers, and government officials. Images include scenes from Quelimane, Mandora, Xueva, Caia, Gouvex and Sarmento.

Biographical / Historical
Established on February 11, 1891, the Mozambique Company (Portuguese: Companhia de Moçambique) was a royal company operating in Portuguese Mozambique that had the concession of the lands in the Portuguese colony corresponding to the present provinces of Manica and Sofala in central Mozambique. It's headquarters were in Beira, Portugese Mozambique.
The company dissolved in 1972.
