Scope and Contents
The collection consists of ephemera related to the Museum of African Art (now the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art) and 7 photographic prints. Ephemera includes monographs, clippings, exhibition invitations, the original prospectus for the Museum by Warren Robbins (1963), and a page of remarks delivered by Paul Tishman at the "Tribute to Africa: Eliot Elisofon Memorial Exhibition" (May 20, 1974). The photographs include 3 b/w and 1 color print of the Eiffel Tower, taken by Warren Robbins; 1 b/w photographic print by Eliot Elisofon (titled "Marcel Duchamp Descends a Staircase", Time/Life/Getty Images); 1 b/w photo by Libby Joy of master weaver Gilbert "Bobbo" Ahiagble from Ghana giving a weaving demonstration at the Museum of African Art, Frederick Douglass House (circa early 1970s); and 1 color photo depicting Raphael Soyer painting a portrait of Chaim and Reneé Gross (circa 1982).
