Full film record created for the National Anthropological Film Center, Smithsonian Institution. Footage documents the Samyak festival which takes place near the Hanamendoka Palace and the Panchare Festival, a nighttime celebration which is held every 12 years in Asan Tol, Kathmandu, Nepal. Scenes of the Samyak Festival include various ritual duties performed by different castes such as cooking rice and radishes, sewing leaves, purifying water, preparing the hearth, and cutting of toenails. Scenes of the Panchare Festival are predominately the festival procession. Footage also includes a macha byenkugu (infant bathing) ceremony. Collection also contains sound recordings.
