Scope and Contents
Scope and Contents
Footage documenting the archaeology of the Wright burial mound, a middle to late Adena culture site in Eastern Kentucky. This large-scale mound excavation was made possible by a work crew provided by the Works Progress Administration. The film shows archaeological methodology, particularly in the manner of excavation through arbitrary stratigraphic levels. Documented are artifacts including an arrowhead, a bead necklace, and presumably other, as yet unidentifiable, prestige goods. Also includes footage of the excavation of a human burial and the associated burial goods.
Please note that the contents of the collection and the language and terminology used reflect the context and culture of the time of its creation. As an historical document, its contents may be at odds with contemporary views and terminology and considered offensive today. The information within this collection does not reflect the views of the Smithsonian Institution or Anthropology Archives, but is available in its original form to facilitate research.
