Apparently a revision by Culbertson of his original journal, with editorial revisions by Baird. The journal is incomplete, the latter portion having been destroyed after publication in Smithsonian Institution -AR 5, Washington, D.C., 1851. pages 84-132. This copy of the earlier portion of the journal, together with the tables and Culbertson's letter to Baird, is printed in "Journal of an Expedition to the Mauvaises Terres and the Upper Missouri in 1850," edited by John Francis McDermott, Bureau of American Ethnology Bulletin 147, 1952.
