Scope and Contents

Scope and Contents
This bound volume is stamped "Ute Vocabulary" on the spine, and also recorded as Ute in the original catalog. See card pasted on back cover. The inscription on the flyleaf, "Paviotso tribe," (i. e., Paiute) is in Hewitt's hand--a later addition (1926 ?), and apparently an error. Comparison with Manuscript 822, a Paviotso vocabulary of Powell, shows no correspondence, while names of relationships and animal names--to mention two catagories checked--appear very similar to those in Powell's Ute vocabulary, Manuscript 2247-a. --MCB 10/59.
