Contains Shigeru Kaneshiro's ethnographic field research in the Caroline Islands, particularly the Woleai islands and Lamotrek. His field notebook contains notes on Palau, Satawal, Elato, Fajalap [Faraulep?], Woleai islands, and Ifalik.

Shigeru Kaneshiro was born on September 9, 1926 in Aiea, Hawaii. Due to his fluency in Japanese and his training in anthropology at the University of Hawaii, he was appointed in 1950 as one of the first District Anthropologists in the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands. His first post was in Palau, and he was later transferred to Yap to study Yap and the outer islands. His publications include "Land tenure in the Palau Islands" and "A Caroline Islands Script," which he co-authored with Saul Riesenberg.
