The collection contains a bound Yapese-English workbook, two small photograph albums, and a letter to the Mays from High Chief Rafael Tol of Kolonia, Yap.

Biographical / Historical
Connie and Jerry Mays served in the Peace Corps, stationed in Yap, Federated States of Micronesia, from 1971-1973. Connie Mays served as a teacher of English as a second language in the high school on the outer island of Falalop in Ulithi Atoll, While Jerry Mays served on the high island of Yap.

The papers were part of a donation of Yap materials to the collections of the Department of Anthropology, National Museum of Natural History (Accession No. 2069653), from Connie and Jerry Mays, in 2015. The papers were separated from the objects and transferred to the National Anthropological Archives.
Separated Materials
The Connie and Jerry Mays papers came to the Smithsonian as part of a larger collection which contain objects from Yap collected by the Mays. These materials, which include shell money, loom-woven cloth, carved wooden figures, basketry, and other items comprise Accession No. 2069653 in the collections of the Department of Anthropology, National Museum of Natural History.
