Local Note
Local Note
This manuscript was found in file Number 2048 (now 2048-a), to which it appeared to be unrelated. The handwriting and source of the main text and translation are unidentified, but the story is similar to to the Tsimshian myth given by Boas, 31st Annual Report, Bureau of American Ethnology, pages 113-116, which is a translation from the German of Boas, 1908, "Eine Sonnesage der Tsimschian," Zeitschrift fur Ethnologie, XL, pages 776-797. The native text given by Boas in the latter source appears to be a word-for-word transcription of this, but with different orthography. This manuscript (2048-b), by an unknown native writer, was probably the source for the article.--MCB, 1957.
Local Note
Tate's handwriting identified from autograph signed document in APS furnished by Sally McClendon, Hunter College, 10/2/78.
