Biographical / Historical
Paul Edmond Beckwith (1848-1907) was US Indian Agent for the Sisseton and Wahpeton Sioux at Devil's Lake, Dakota Territory from 1875 to 1876. A decade later he joined the Smithsonian's scientific staff, eventually becoming assistant curator in the Anthropology Department.
