Scope and Contents
Thirteen stories handwritten in Meskwaki (Fox) syllabic text collected by Truman Michelson. Six of the texts are by Frank Shawata, the younger brother of Alfred Kiyana. The translated titles of Shawata's texts are "Rabbit," "Beaver," "Fox," "Those who had power," "Wildcat," and "Mouse." The remaining seven texts are by an unidentified writer. The titles are "Summer hunters," "A woman who was captured by the Sioux long ago," "Old men who gambled long ago," "Men on the warpath," "Sauk and Mesquakie gamblers," "Indian summer hunters," "A Sioux who was a berdache but had power," and "When a Frenchman coaxed the Peorias in what to do." Among the 13 stories is a text on Mascoutens.
