Scope and Contents
Story handwritten in Meskwaki (Fox) syllabary by Sakihtanohkweha (Mrs. Bill Leaf). Titled "Winter-Spirit Women," the text was previously misattributed to her husband, Bill Leaf, whose name appears on top of the first page. The text is accompanied by an English translation from Harry Lincoln in Truman Michelson's hand. In the story a man races with Hill-Owner (who turns into a turkey vulture) and then successfully marries the youngest of an ogress' ice maiden daughters. On the top of the first page of the translation, Michelson writes "Trick of moccasin burning also...Ojibwa." The translation is dated 1914.
