Scope and Contents

Scope and Contents
"Notes on the Cherokee Language" refers to Cherokee grammar and is primarily copied from The Cherokee Messenger, Volume 1, Nos. 1, 2, 6, 7, and 9, 1844-45, and from S. A. Worcester in H. R. Schoolcraft, History, Condition and Prospects of the Indian Tribes of the United States, Philadelphia, 1852, Volume II, pages 443-456. The separate slip of notes on the syllabary was found in the Bureau of American Ethnology library copy of The Cherokee Messenger in 12/1969, and appears to be in the same handwriting.
