Jones, a Baptist missionary was engaged in promulgating anti-slavery sentiments among the Cherokees in 1860 (pages 324-35), and subsequently, represented the Cherokee Nation as one of the delegates to Washington for the Treaty of July 19, 1866 (page 334).
