The collection conists of two (2) pictographic signatures of Cheyenne men collected by the Rev. E.W.J. Lindesmith.

Eli Washington John Lindesmith (1827-1922) was a Catholic priest who served as a military chaplain at Fort Keogh, Montana from 1880 to 1891.

Custodial History
The drawings in this collection were given to the United States National Museum (USNM) as part of a larger collection of ethnological objects, items of military history, and archeological, palentological and molluscan specimens which previously constituted the museum holdings of Catholic University. The collection was accessioned under 211312 as "The Monseignor John M. Cooper Collection of African, American, Oceanic, and Phillipine Ethnology, presented by The Catholic University of America."
The drawings were transferred from the object collections of the Department of Anthropology to the National Anthropological Archives in August 1969.
