Both letters deal with the Algonquian and Siouan tribes of the southeast, particularly the Catawbas. Correspondence relative to: Derivation of the word "Catawba"; the location of the Massawomek Tribe; also comparison of the word "Shenandoah" with "Zynodoa" as used by Lederer (Discoveries, page 30).
