Informants: W. E. Haney of Sylvian, Oklahoma, "a Hitchiti Indian able to use the Creek alphabet." This sketch is based in part on a study of the material collected by A. S. Gatschet between 1880 and 1890.
Biographical / Historical
Introduction states that his field work for this manuscript was done with the "Hitchiti speaking Indians in the northern part of the former Seminole Nation, Oklahoma," in 1912. According to the Forty-first Annual Report of the Bureau of American Ethnology, page 55, Swanton prepared a grammatical sketch of the Hitchiti language in 1921-1922.
