This letter was found with manuscript 2031, to which it is not related except that a description of the letter manuscript has been written on the back in the hand of J. N. B. Hewitt. What manuscript was transmitted with the Ransom letter is unknown. There is no mention of it in the 27th Annual Report, Bureau of American Ethnology.

On January 12, 1959 Mr Jameson reported checking the press copy book of letters sent for the period from May 11 to the first week in June without finding a copy of any letter of acknowledgement by Hodge.
