Administration

Custodial History
Received August 1966 from Donald E. Lown, 913 N. Hague Ave., Columbus, Ohio, 43204, who obtained them in July 1966 at an auction of the effects of Charles W. Palmer, near Barre Center, N.Y. Palmer had been a collector of Indian artifacts and had obtained some artifacts, plaster casts, books and papers of F.H. Cushing's from the Cushing family homestead near Barre Center after the death of Cushing's brother, Enos. At the Palmer auction, Lown bid on the manuscript papers, photos, and plaster casts that he thought had been Cushing's and sent them to the Smithsonian (Correspondence between Lown and Margaret C. Blaker files with documentation for ms collections).
