Custodial History
Ethnological material collected on the voyage was acquired by the Smithsonian from Townsend and Moore, April 17, 1900 (Accession Number 36365, Catalog Numbers 204976-205225, 206126-206374). The museum also purchased from Townsend on February 9, 1900 a collection of objects from the South Pacific, which Townsend himself had purchased (Accession Number 36122, Catalog Numbers 204601-204615). Received in the Archives 1/69 from Saul H. Riesenberg, Chairman, Department of Anthropology, Smithsonian Institution.

Prints of photographs taken during the expedition are in the archives (uncatalogued). Some of the negatives, numbering (not always consecutively) from approximately 40060 to to 40300, are on file in the MNH and MHT photo labs; records show that negatives 40015-40021 were destroyed in 1951.

Although a note with the manuscript seemed to indicate that it had been microfilmed, no microfilm was located in 1969 and no related manuscripts were found.
