Author's note: This is the first draft of a Modoc dictionary, the material having been obtained from Mr and Mrs Riddle in New York City in December, 1875 and subsequent months. The pencil marks contain corrections made in 1877 at the Klamath Lake or E-ukahik-ni dialect, the whole was published by me in vol. II (part second) of J. W. Powell's "Contributions to North American Ethnology," Washington 1890.
