Biographical Note
George Hunt (1854-1933) was an ethnographer best known for his work with anthropologist Franz Boas. Hunt's ethnographic notes and artifact collections provided the first ethno-history of the Kwakwaka'wakw culture.
Administration
Custodial History
Deposited in the Smithsonian Office of Anthropology Archives (now the National Anthropological Archives) by Douglas Osborne, Department of Anthropology, California State College at Long Beach in 1967. Osborne obtained the drawings from John M. Goggin, University of Florida, who reportedly obtained them from William C. Orchard, of the Heye Foundation. Goggin represented them as being by George Hunt. Related correspondence is in the accession file.
