The map was collected in Japan during the 1930s and donated to the United States National Museum by Mrs. Lispernard S. Crocker in 1961. It was included in an exhibit entitled "Around the World" held at the Historic Warner House, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, July 31-August 5, 1939. The map was transferred from the artifactual collection of the Department of Anthropology, National Museum of Natural History, by in September 1985.
