Administration
Custodial History
The rubbing was donated to the United States National Museum along with two large stone mortars found in New England and a piece of rock containing a petroglyph removed from the Bellows Falls site by W. Elliot Woodward in 1882. The other items in the collection were destroyed by the museum in the 1920s and 1940s. The rubbing was listed as missing in 1948; it may have been transferred to the Bureau of American Ethnology prior to that date. There is no accession information for the rubbing in the National Anthropological Archives, and it was not cataloged until the 1970s.
