Local Note

Local Note
Data furnished by Chang-su Houchins, of the Department of Anthropology. Mrs. Houchins states "the issue date given in the original decree is Keiō yonen sangatsu (the third month in the fourth year of the Keiō period--March, 1868). Technically "return to the old monarchy" was proclaimed in January 1868, but the proclamation of Meiji, the new reign period was made in October. In the translation, by order of Inugami Prefecture should be corrected to read by order of the Inukami District [Shiga Department, now Shiga Prefecture]."
