Scope and Contents
Scope and Contents
Comparative vocabulary on printed schedule issued by the Geographic and Geological Survey, Interior Department, arranged in parallel columns.
Scope and Contents
Note on the Cowlitz, in Gatschet's hand: "Differs quite considerably from the Kuwalitsk of Gibbs--Powell, Contributions I, 271, etc."
Words for "father", "mother" and others indicate this is definitely Lower Cowlitz (Salishan). Manuscript examined by Dr M. Dale Kinkade, University of Kansas, here 3/11/71.
Laurence Thompson, here 4/64, points out that there is confusion between Cowlitz (a southern Washington language close to Upper Chehalis) and Kuwalitsk, apptly. a Fraser River dialect--cf. Powell Contrib. I, page 269.
