William Cline Moomaw (1873-1965) was born at Cloverdale, Virginia, the ninth of twelve children. Elementary schooling took place at a private school at the family home. Secondary studies were at nearby Dalesville Academy and undergraduate work at Juniata College. He recieved a degree in medicine from the University of Virginia in 1903. He then took a position at the mission hospital on the Navaho Reservation at Fort Defiance, near Gallup, New Mexico. He then spent two years with the Navahos. Dr. Moomaw went on to practice medicine for 54 years, and was awarded an unsolicited Fellowship in the American College of Surgeons. (Information furnished by John deL. Moomaw, of Elkton, Maryland.
